  • Festival Description: Beyond Distance: Half a Lifelong Friendship of Eileen Chang, Stephen Soong and Mae Fong Soong
    presents a rare and intimate exploration of the enduring friendship among three influential literary figures. Organised by Hong Kong Metropolitan University, the exhibition traces the deep bond between Eileen Chang, Stephen Soong and Mae Fong Soong, spanning more than four decades and transcending geographical distance.
    The exhibition features a remarkable collection of manuscripts, correspondence, photographs and personal artefacts that illuminate their lifelong friendship and rich literary exchanges. Through these treasured materials, visitors gain insight into the vital roles Stephen Soong and Mae Fong Soong played as Eileen Chang’s trusted confidants, collaborators and supporters in literary publishing and screenwriting. Many of the exhibits offer a unique perspective on their contributions to Chinese literature and Hong Kong movies.
    A highlight of the exhibition is the recreation of the Soong family living room, a vibrant cultural gathering place that once welcomed prominent literary and artistic figures. Enhanced by immersive visual installations and new media art, the exhibition brings together historical narratives and contemporary technology, allowing visitors to experience the lasting legacy of their friendship and the enduring spirit of
    Beyond Distance.

    Guided Tour: 10am – 11am, 11:30am – 12:30pm and 3pm – 4pm.
