為適應經濟和社會發展的需求，近年來香港政府積極實施一系列人才引進計劃新政，旨在吸引大量高薪人才和全球頂尖大學畢業生前來香港發展，根據香港行政長官2022年施政報告，推出了 「高端人才通行證計劃」，羅致高薪人才和全球百強大學畢業生來港發展的規劃，具體的項目細節我們可以在中華人民共和國香港特別行政區政府入境事務處查詢。

香港高端人才通行證（以下稱為“高才通”）在2022年12月28日開放了申請通道，接受世界各地人才申請，那麼，他與此前香港優秀人才入境計劃有何差別呢？
首先要說明的是，香港優才計劃、香港高才通計劃均是目前拿香港身分的主流方式。
不同之處：

香港優才要求申請人在滿足基本資格（年滿18歲；學士或以上學位；無不良入境記錄及犯罪記錄）的基礎上，通過兩套計分制度中的一套獲取分數，分數達標（80 分以上）才能提交申請，進入甄選程序。

香港高才則對符合資格的人士分為A/B/C三類，申請人符合其一就可以提交申請。例如：過去一年年薪達港幣250萬元或以上的人士；或畢業於全球百強大學並在過去五年內累積三年或以上工作經驗的人士；或最近五年內畢業於百強大學但未符合 工作經驗要求的畢業生。
關於裡面提到的全球百強大學，準確的定義應是“合資格大學綜合名單（“綜合名單”）載列的大學／院校”，綜合名單是勞工及福利局根據
(i)泰晤士高等教育世界大學排名、QS世界大學排名、美國新聞與世界報道全球最佳大學排名及上海交通大學世界大學學術排名這四個指定的世界大學排行榜，在過去五年所列的百強大學／院校；
(ii)過去五年在QS世界大學排名「酒店及休閒管理」範疇位列前五名專門提供酒店課程的大學／院校；及
(iii)過去五年在上海交通大學中國大學排名位列前十名的內地大學而制定。
