Since 1963, it has become an important celebration and is one of the largest Tin Hau Festival events in Hong Kong, recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2021. A highlight of the festival is the Shap Pat Heung fa pau (large floral tributes made of bamboo and paper) parade, which boasts a history of over 60 years. During the celebration day, fa pau groups and performance teams from different villages will present dragon dances, lion dances and other traditional performances. This year, the event has been significantly upscaled to a grand three-day celebration, featuring not only the traditional parade but also a vibrant lineup that includes Yuen Long food bazaar, giant fa pau exhibition (exceeding 9 metres in height), specialty stage performances, art and cultural workshops, adorable photo spots and a family fun zone. The highlight will be the kick-off ceremony on 8 May, featuring a 3.47-metre giant Tai Ping Drum to symbolise unity and strength, followed by a spectacular illumination show and a mesmerising glow-in-the-dark Yingge dance.
